Train of Thought. The John G. McCullough Free Library's Youth Writing Project. April 2024. April is National Poetry Month. Even if you’re more a story or essay author, or a cartoonist, or any other sort of creative writer, it can be good to try something new. If you don’t want to do an epic, rhyming poem, try a tanka, a haiku or a cinquain. Or, how about a song? Songs are poetry. Think of a melody--some tune that is familiar to you--and write new lyrics for it. Just craft something in your own words. This is a virtual writers’ space for teens and kids, offering a different writing prompt each month.
